Zones follow the Bower & St. Clair method: two climate axes, crossed, then split by island group. The first axis is winter minimum temperature — the cold that sets a plant’s lower limit. The second is the annual heat-to-moisture ratio, which separates a wet windward slope from a dry leeward one even at the same temperature.
Because moving material between islands carries its own genetic risk, zones never cross island groups. Each is computed from WorldClim climate surfaces, sampled at 1 km and vectorised once — the map reads finished geometry, nothing is modelled in your browser.
These are provisional v1 zones — a climate-based first approximation, not species-specific genetic zones. They are a starting point for planning and conversation, to be checked against local knowledge, provenance trials, and permits.
